Concert artist, educator, composer, and arranger, he is considered one of the most important bandoneonists of his generation. He has performed in the world's most prestigious concert halls, including Zurich's Tonhalle, Prague's Dvořák Hall, Brussels' Bozar Theatre, Beijing's National Center for the Performing Arts, Taipei's National Concert Hall, Rome's Parco della Musica, Cagliari's Lirico Theatre, and Klagenfurt's Großer Saal. His talent is recognized by institutions and festivals such as the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, the Ljubljana Festival, the Emilia Romagna Festival, the Cremona Stradivari Festival, the Maggio dei Monumenti, and the Shanghai MISA Festival. He has collaborated with internationally renowned artists and ensembles, including I Musici, Antony Pay, Michel Michalakakos, Federico Mondelci, Anne Gastinel, Solisti della Scala, Kodály String Quartet, Budapest String Orchestra, Daniel Binelli, Juan José Mosalini, Salzburg Chamber Soloists, Kiev Symphony Orchestra, Baden-Baden Symphony Orchestra, and Trio Wanderer. He began studying accordion at age seven, continuing with Eliana Zajec and Corrado Rojac, and graduated in clarinet from the Cagliari Conservatory with highest honors under M° Roberto Gander. He is the first and only tenured bandoneon professor at an Italian conservatory, winner of the ministerial competition ex DM180/2023.

Born in 1994, Marco Schirru graduated in Piano with highest honors, praise, and special mention at the “G.P. da Palestrina” Conservatory in Cagliari under Prof. Aurora Cogliandro, where he also earned his Level II Academic Diploma with 110/110, praise, and special mention. He refined his skills with Pietro De Maria at the Fiesole School of Music and Enrico Pace at the Pinerolo Academy, also participating in masterclasses with J.M. Luisada, J. Rouvier, U. Weyand, D. Merlet, L. Zilberstein, G. Andaloro, G. Tacchino, P. Camicia, B. Canino, and R. Castro. He completed the two-year Maestro Collaboratore course at La Scala Theatre Academy. As a soloist and chamber musician, he has performed in some of Italy’s most prestigious theaters (Teatro La Fenice in Venice, Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa, Teatro Lirico in Cagliari, Teatro Massimo “Bellini” in Catania, Teatro alla Scala in Milan) and at major festivals in Italy and abroad, winning numerous national and international competitions. The Novafonic Quartet, of which he has been a member for several years, has been broadcast on Rai5 and Rai Radio 3. He has collaborated with renowned artists such as Anna Tifu, Fabio Furia, Barbara Frittoli, Ernesto Palacio, Ottavio Dantone, and Sesto Quatrini. He currently teaches Piano Practice at the Cagliari Conservatory.
